Weight loss varies depending on starting weight, age, gender, diet, and exercise. The most successful patients include a healthy diet with exercise. A Healthy Eating and Workout Plan (PDF with helpful tips and meal plans) will be provided free with helpful tips to help you on this journey.
Medications like semaglutide (Wegovy®) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) are not designed for short-term use. Obesity is a chronic and relapsing condition. Medications in combination with diet and exercise will need to be continued long term for continued success.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, headache, acid reflux, indigestion, dehydration, and fatigue.
The most common side effect is nausea. This most often occurs after eating greasy, fatty, sugary foods or eating too much. It can also occur when first starting the medication and the first few days the dose escalation. Most of the side effects are mild and improve or subside with time.
Do not skip meals. Drink plenty of water to avoid constipation and dehydration. Eat smaller meals. Eat slower. Chew food thoroughly. Do not eat too late to prevent symptoms when laying down. Avoid sugary, fatty greasy foods which may upset the stomach.
The advantage of using compounded medications is that they can be started at lower doses and slowly increased or adjusted as tolerated to help prevent (or decrease) side effects.
ACID REFLUX– Over-the-counter Tums as needed, Pepcid and/or Prilosec
NAUSEA/VOMITING– usually occurs on the first days after the injection or when increasing to a higher dose. Zofran can be prescribed if needed.
CONSTIPATION– Metamucil or MiraLAX and plenty of water
DIARRHEA– Imodium
